Civic Center Park is where Woodhaven, Michigan comes together. It is home to the Uncle Sam Jam, with its carnival midway, live music, food and games, and to community events like the Ruck Walk for mental health. Now the park offers something more: peace of mind, with two new SaveHeart by HeartNation outdoor AED cabinets that anyone can reach.
The project took shape in March, when Mayor Patricia Odette announced that Woodhaven City Council had approved the purchase of two AEDs for Civic Center Park. “These life-saving devices will be publicly accessible and ready when seconds matter most,” the mayor wrote. The City of Woodhaven shared the news with residents, adding that the devices would be in the park shortly.
Two SaveHeart by HeartNation Cabinets at Civic Center Park
By June, the city’s plan was in place. The two SaveHeart by HeartNation cabinets at Civic Center Park are equipped with Physio-Control CR2 AEDs, keeping lifesaving equipment close at hand for the families, neighbors and visitors who spend their days at the park.
Each cabinet has room on its front for sponsorship or a dedication. The design for Woodhaven proudly carries the city’s emblem alongside its fire department’s.
Leadership from City Hall and the Fire Department
Behind the new cabinets are city leaders who chose to plan ahead: Fire Chief Bradley Myles and Deputy Chief Chris Davenport, Mayor Odette and Woodhaven City Council. Together, they made public access to AEDs, protected in SaveHeart by HeartNation cabinets, part of how Woodhaven cares for its parks.
Woodhaven also joins a growing list of Downriver communities taking this step. In nearby Wyandotte, the fire department has been adding SaveHeart by HeartNation Wall-Mounts to city parks since late 2025.
“This is another step forward in keeping our parks safe for residents and families.” - Mayor Patricia Odette
Made for the Outdoors
SaveHeart by HeartNation cabinets are made in the USA to keep an AED ready outdoors through Michigan’s summers and winters. They are weather-resistant and climate-controlled, alarmed and lighted, with a back-lit “AED Public Access” top that can be seen from across the lawn. The design shown for Civic Center Park is a freestanding SaveHeart Tower. Every cabinet is also smart monitored, confirming AED readiness and sending real-time alerts.
At SaveHeart by HeartNation, we’re grateful to the City of Woodhaven for making this investment in the people who call Woodhaven home, and for letting us play a part. Safety doesn’t happen by accident. Well done, Woodhaven!
