Easton MDs First Publicly Accessible Outdoor AED Placed ‘Downtown’
It is nothing short of inspiring to see the growing number of outdoor Automated External Defibrillator (AED) placements around the country. Congratulations to Talbot County, MD for placing a lifesaving AED inside this new highly visible, publicly accessible, temperature controlled, and monitored SaveHeart cabinet in the heart of Easton MD’s beautiful and bustling village center:
Watch Story from Delmarva’s WBOC.

This new outdoor AED placement – made possible by Talbot County Department of Emergency Services (DES), Talbot Paramedic Foundation, and Bluepoint Hospitality – makes everyone feel even safer. Thank you for allowing SaveHeart to support you in this exciting lifesaving initiative!
SCA: A Public Health Crisis and a Serial Killer
SCA kills nearly 400,000 Americans each year (>1,000 people/day), striking without warning and often without regard to age, sex, ethnicity, and even health profile. Sadly, today less than 10% of out-of-hospital SCA victims survive, largely because AEDs aren’t available when & where needed.
Time is of the Essence
As heroic and dedicated as our first responders are, national emergency response times to arrive on scene range between 7-12 minutes – often too late for SCA victims. And while cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can help ‘buy time,’ the only real cure for SCA is an immediate shock from an AED, which the American Heart Association recommends within 3 minutes of an event.
Improving SCA survival rates, therefore, requires placing many more AEDs, including outside – where an estimated 20% of SCA events occur – AND immediate action by lay responders before paramedics arrive on scene.
