The village of Berlin was incorporated after the Civil War in 1868, where a tavern (the “Burley Inn”), blacksmith shop, and livery met a major crossroads. The town grew significantly in conjunction with the burgeoning tourist destination next door, Ocean City. Since the late 1980s, the town has undergone a considerable revitalization of its historic downtown commercial district and adjacent residential areas and has become a destination in its own right.
Named in 2014 as the “coolest small town in America,” Berlin may also now be one of the safest! Thanks to a donation from the Berlin Lions Club, Berlin is now also home to three new lifesaving AEDs inside, highly visible, publicly accessible, temperature-controlled, and 24×7 monitored SaveHeart outdoor cabinets at Stephen Decatur Park, Henry Park, and the Maryland Visitor’s Center.
“We recognize the vital role of AEDs in the chain of care during cardiac emergencies,” Berlin Special Project Administrator Kate Daub commented. “It is crucial to place AEDs in high-traffic areas or locations where physical activity occurs to ensure public access to AEDs as an essential safety measure.” Mayor Zack Tyndall added, “Now residents and visitors can enjoy our parks and downtown area knowing that this life-saving equipment is only a few steps away.”
SaveHeart is honored to be a part of this project and would like to say a special ‘Thank You’ to the Lions Club, Kate Daub and Cody Chesser from the Town of Berlin, and the Berlin Electric and Public Works Department for planning and installing these lifesaving AEDs inside SaveHeart smart cabinets!
